Newcastle's flagship beach is something of a local icon, offering a pristine, sweeping beach environment that's both visually impressive to explore and a great place to relax. Nobbys Beach has plenty working in its favour; it's popular yet never overly crowded, it's got great facilities available to the public, and it's safe for swimming all year round. The beach is also a quality surfing beach that draws in plenty of local surfers, and is well-patrolled by lifeguards during the warmer months of the year for additional peace of mind.
The view on offer is top-notch, too, both up to the headland with its adorning lighthouse, and out to the water where huge ships can often be seen making their way in and out of Newcastle's busy port. The beach is kept remarkably clean despite its popularity, too - a testament both to the efforts of authorities as well as the pride locals take in keeping it in quality condition. The walk up to the lighthouse is a must-do for first-time visitors, involving just a short walk along with great views. Nobbys Beach also offers a decent cafe from which to grab food and refreshments, while its Surf Life Saving Club serves alcoholic beverages from the bar.
